This beautiful Shaker kitchen was created for an older property and was built around a treasured existing Aga. Note the way the worktop and cupboards vary in depth to add interest and to incorporate the cooker, and also how the worktop fits directly into the window recess with no separate window sill, leading the eye more easily to the window and outside.
Each side of this kitchen is symmetrically balanced, and the tall units reach up to the ceiling, avoiding the dust and grease trap usually found on top of lower cupboards.
It’s wood floor reflected other areas of the house and the distinctive handles used throughout the kitchen were matched to original features being retained.
The owners were delighted with this kitchen and subsequently returned to Dowers to create a bespoke wardrobe solution in the beamed bedroom area that can be seen in our ‘other projects’ area. [click here]
What the client said:
“We are delighted with our kitchen. Guy matched the existing 1920s glazed cupboards exactly; he even found some matching handles. The work was done quickly and tidily. The kitchen has stood the test of time and been much admired by friends and family.
Four years later we decided we wanted built-in cupboards in our dressing room so we asked Guy to make them. Once again he seamlessly matched the existing woodwork and created a wonderful set of cupboards carefully designed to fit our clothes and to accommodate my several metres of shoes. The work in excellent and, once again, is much admired.“
